Obituary
Sadly, we announce that Dorothy passed away at Fir Park Village in Port Alberni on Saturday, March 14, 2020. She was born in Courtenay on July 4, 1923 to Austin and Marjorie Blackburn.
She leaves behind to forever miss her, son, Doug (Terry); daughter, Brenda (Russ) Widdess; grandchildren, Colleen, Tracy, Curtis, Dale; great granddaughters, Daelyn, Chelsea, and Rosalyn; brother, Fred Blackburn; as well as many extended family members and friends. Dorothy was predeceased by her beloved husband, Cliff; infant daughter, Lynne; grandson, Morgan; sisters, Evelyn, and Bernice; and brother, Gordon.
One of Dorothy’s many happy places was the great outdoors where she could be found gardening, canoeing, skiing, and partaking in outings with the Ladies Only Tuesday Walking Group. She was a long-time member of the Alberni Valley Curling Club and also spent many years volunteering for the Alberni Valley Historical Society.
Dorothy’s passion for travel was very much shared by her husband, Cliff and their love of adventure took them to all corners of the globe. Kuantan, Malaysia was even home for a few years. An excellent cook, Dorothy cherished her family dinners – her wild blackberry pies are legendary!
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honour Dorothy’s memory may do so by making a donation in her name to a charity of their choosing.
