Dorothy “Dot” Hewitson
July 09, 2000 – September 30, 2020
It is with saddened hearts that the loving family of Dorothy (Dot) Charlotte Hewitson, announce that she slipped away peacefully in her sleep on September 30, 2020 at Princess Court in Dryden, Ontario
The baby of her family and the eleventh child, mom was born on July 9, 1932 in Kamloops, BC
Growing up as a child in Westwold, BC. Mom left home at an early age to join the Royal Canadian Air Force with her niece and very best friend Sheila where she met and married her beloved husband “Jack” in 1954.
Together they moved around with the RCAF until landing back in Jack’s hometown of Dryden in 1965 where they raised their three children. Left to mourn are John (Karen), Pam (Greg) and Wayne (Berta), beloved grandchildren Marty Ouellette (Jody), Amy Hewitson (Mack) and Emma Hewitson (Patrick). Tim Kondra (Marianne), Chris Kondra (Kendra), several great-grandchildren and Son-in-law Kevin, two brothers John Simpson (Barb) and Jim Simpson (Sherri) as well as many nieces and nephews. Dorothy was predeceased by her husband John (Jack) William Hewitson in 2012.
Mom went to work right away at the Dryden Cleaners and at the Royal Canadian Legion where she worked both jobs until they purchased their corner store “Jack’s Grocery” in 1980. Open 364 days of the year for the 14 years they owned it. Mom was owner, manager, assistant manager, bookkeeper, babysitter and a terrific mother & grandmother. We still aren’t sure why it wasn’t called “Dot’s Grocery.” Mom went back into the workforce after they sold the store and retired at Walmart.
Mom especially enjoyed her many trips back to BC where she was always greeted with love and open arms by family & friends.
Mom will be greatly missed by all.
Cremation has taken place and due to Covid-19, A Private Family Service will be held at the Amesdale Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers and if friends so desire, donations can be made in Mom’s name to DRHC Foundation or Princess Court DECO through Stevens Funeral Homes, P.O. Box 412, Dryden, ON P8N 2Z1. Condolences may be posted at wwwstevensfuneralhomes.ca
