Obituary
BERRY, Dorothy Mae
Dorothy Mae Berry passed away on December 11, 2020 after a long battle with dementia. She reached the admirable age of 94 and was predeceased by her sisters Barbara, Margaret and Carmel and their brother Edward. She is survived by one sister, Stella.
Dorothy was born in Radway, Alberta and grew up on the family farm near Egremont. Dorothy’s father, Arthur Richard Collingwood Berry, succumbed to pneumonia when she was four years old; under the loving guidance of their widowed mother, Anne (née Kathleen Anna Stimpfle) the six Berry children became strong and resourceful.
As an adult, Dorothy moved to Edmonton and pursued a career as a medical assistant, particularly enjoying working in orthopedics. Dorothy made many friends in the city but returned regularly to Egremont to visit with family. She developed interests in nature, photography and travelling, and would regale her many nieces and nephews with slide shows from interesting destinations. Her generosity extended to allowing more than one of them to board with her in Edmonton, so that they could pursue post-secondary education.
Dorothy will always be remembered for her adventurous spirit and her skill when there were photographs to be taken or first aid to be meted out.
A celebration of Dorothy’s life will be planned in 2021. In memory of Dorothy, donations can be made to the charity of your choice. Expressions of sympathy may be forwarded by visiting westlockfuneralhome.com. Westlock Funeral Home & Crematorium Ltd. 780-349-3474.
