She also leaves behind her beloved sister-in-law Irene Martins and her many nieces & nephews.
Doris was born on the family farm, North of Woodrow, SK. She was the youngest of 5 children, and had intended to be a nurse, but when the Great Depression made that dream an impossibility, she committed to bringing light and joy to her family and friends.
In track and field, she loved the high jump, and as a pitcher she always had her sister Violet behind the plate. Later in life, she could still make your hand sting with her fast ball. Doris was an avid reader and loved her garden and flowers. She was committed to lifelong learning, volunteering at the library, taking music lessons, university classes, and learning how to make beautiful ceramics.
Doris was always there for her family and friends, a great listener, she could keep a secret, but more importantly, get anyone to share their secret when it would make them and their situation better. She was always there for her little ones, becoming very adept at tying skates for her grandchildren, and was always their biggest fan. She will be missed but never forgotten by her loving family and her Woodrow, Yorkton, Craik, Moose Jaw, Assiniboia and Regina friends.
Due to the current Covid-19 restrictions a celebration of her amazing life is being planned for the summer of 2021.
