Doris Nelson April 27 2020

It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother and grandmother, Doris on April 27, 2020.
Doris passed peacefully at home after a short but courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by her husband and her three devoted daughters.
Devoted wife of 44 years to Ron Nelson. Cherished mother and best friend to Colleen Larose (Peter) of Eganville, Maureen McGee (M.J.) of Douglas and Tracee Dillabough (Michael) of Eganville. Loved step-mother to Ronnie (Bridget) of Eganville and Debbie (Suzanne) of Elliot Lake. Adored Nanny to Ryan, Kaila, Jessica (Patrick), Tanner, Alex, Joey and Jack. Favourite Aunt to Billy Baker (Laureen) and John Baker (Cheryl). Doris is predeceased by her once constant companion and sister Maureen and brother-in-law Bill Baker.
Doris was born and raised in Ottawa. She worked at Canada Post head quarters until she and Ron purchased their first business, Lakeside Foodmarket on Carling Ave. in the early 1980’s followed by Mr. Grocer in Westboro. It was in 1992 that they decided to take the huge leap and move to the Village of Eganville when they purchased Strickland’s Supermarket which later became IGA and what we now know as Foodland. Doris embraced Eganville as her new home, and as a testament to how much she was loved, each of her girls followed.
Doris’ generous nature was unmatched. She would give you the shirt off her back- literally. Her acts of kindness were not random but very much intentional and often anonymous. Doris was a remarkable cook and loved preparing meals for her family especially during the holidays. She loved Bingo, shopping, bursting into song and the “odd” glass of wine, but most importantly she loved her many dogs and grand dogs.
Mom had a wonderful sense of humor and was always the life of the party, not because she wanted to be the centre of attention but because everyone loved being around her.
To those who had the pleasure of knowing our amazing wife, mother and grandmother please take a moment to raise a glass and cheers to a life well lived. And in her words remember, “if you can’t laugh, what’s the point in being here!”
Doris has been entrusted to the care of Zohr Family Funeral Home, Eganville. Cremation has taken place and there will be a Memorial Mass held at a later date.
Mother, you left us beautiful memories
Your love is still our guide
Although we cannot see you
You’re always by our side.
