Doreen Josephine O’SHAUGHNESSY
(née Weichel)
April 3, 1941 – September 25, 2020
It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to the Light of our Lives ~ our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother Doreen (Gigi). She has gone to heaven to be with her loving husband Louis and her sweet angel Talia. Mom was predeceased by her parents Joseph and Josephine Weichel, sisters Lydia and Kay and brothers Adam and John. Mom will always be loved and cherished by her children Bonnie (Frank Briere), Brian (Kim), Randy (Carla) and Melanie (Trevor Spagrud); grandchildren Craig (Andra), Michelle (Andreas Barous), Danielle, Joshua, Marla, Matthew, Caitlin, Delaynee, Mikkel, Zadkiel, Sarah, Emily and Jakeb; great-grandchildren Carson, Peyton, Gisele, Lukas, Zakary and Noah; and sisters Eva and Beatrice. Mom was born in Montmartre, SK and attended Gray Valley School until grade 10. She moved to Regina and in 1958, mom and dad were married. Mom then completed her grade 12 education and took secretarial and computer courses at SIAST. She went on to work as a secretary and manager at Sears and Excell Hearing Center for 21 years. Mom enjoyed travelling all over the world with family and friends. Her travels took her all across Canada and the US, 15 European and Asian countries, 2 Caribbean Cruises and an Alaskan Cruise. Her greatest joy was watching her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren in their many sporting and school activities while praying every day for their success. Mom spent many years volunteering for St. Paul School, St. Charles’ Parish Council, Cub Scouts, International Highland Dancers, Can-Am Games, Eastview Community Association, Regina MOSAIC, Archbishop’s Appeal, 46 years with the Catholic Women’s League (St. Charles’ and St. Anne’s Councils, Regina Diocesan and Saskatchewan Provincial Executives), 23 years for the Saskatchewan Roughriders including 3 Grey Cups, Ramsgate Hall, the Tim Horton’s Brier, and 8 years with Globe Theatre. Mom also held memberships with the Audubon Society and the Canadian Wildlife Federation and was a season ticket holder with the Roughriders for 29 years, 26 years with Globe Theatre, and 24 years with Regina Little Theatre. Mom was honoured to be a member of the Catholic faith and was very proud of her German-Canadian heritage. She loved her family more than anything and was fiercely protective of them. She was very generous and dedicated to her family and friends. Mom’s love was never ending. She will be in our hearts forever!! Auf Wiedersehen! A private family service will be held on Saturday, October 10, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. To view the livestream of the service please click on the link to Speers TV at the top of Doreen’s Tribute Page.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Doreen
