Doreen Fraser 19302020

Doreen Fraser
1930-2020
Passed away peacefully on Dec. 6, 2020 at Cambridge Memorial
Hospital in her 91st year.
Best friend and beloved wife of the late Beverly (Bev)
Fraser. Beloved mother of Diane Sloat (Paul Shouldice), Jane
Walker (Randy) and Brenda Kemp (Barry Ames). Cherished
daughter of the late Herbert and Jean Hall, loving sister of Helen
Round, Jim Hall and the late Marian Carpenter. Loved by
grandchildren Jeffery Drysdale (Lynn Highley), Katie Drysdale Bates
(Tyler), Alex Walker, Michael Cole (Shari), Scott Cole (Allie),
Mackenzie Kemp (Cheyanne Almeida), Tessa Kemp (Iain Thomas).
Cherished great-grandmother of Kennedy, Jack, Liam and Brielle
Cole. Doreen will be greatly missed by her nieces and
nephews Jeannie Robinson, Joanne Martin, Lorna Hall Taggart, Jamie
Hall, Terry Carpenter, Gary Carpenter, Grant Fraser, Michael Fraser,
Barbara Fraser, David Miller, Paul Miller, Peter Miller and Lois
Miller.
Doreen grew up in Guelph Ontario and moved to Cambridge to
start her married life with Bev 70 years ago. Doreen stayed
home to raise her girls and was well known for her love of baking and
sewing. She was an avid reader and had a fabulous memory of
dates and world events. Family, church and friends were
extremely important to her. Doreen sang in the church choir,
annual Variety Shows and was a member of the United Church Women for
decades. Doreen’s love of music led her to the Addison
Women’s Choir and the Ch’ckl’ts, a group
of lifelong friends performing at many nursing homes in the
area.
She loved her monthly bridge games with girlfriends and later
with a couples’ group. She loved to gaze out her
kitchen window and take in the many different kinds of birds perched
at the bird feeder. Once the girls grew up, she enjoyed
working at Helen McFarlane’s Catering and later at Reid
Candy and Nut Shop.
Doreen loved visits from her grandchildren,
great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Many birthdays and
anniversaries were celebrated in the Fraser’s backyard with
friends and family over the years. She carried on the
tradition of family gatherings at Thanksgiving and Christmas until she
passed the tradition to her daughters and nieces. Doreen was
the last of an incredible generation. She was so strong and
capable, full of life, joy and love. Doreen was a role model
to her daughters and the women who knew her. She will be
missed by all.
On Doreen’s wishes cremation has taken
place. A celebration of life will be held at some point in
the future due to the restrictions of COVID-19. Donations in
Doreen’s memory may be made to Cedar Hill United
Church.
