Obituary of Dora Eleanor Reid
REID, Dora Eleanor (Liles), passed away peacefully at Norview Lodge on June 13th, 2020 in Simcoe, Ontario in her 94th year. Just six weeks following the passing of her husband Gord of sixty-three years, Dora decided it was time to join him in Heaven. The family has great comfort knowing they are back together holding hands and reminiscing about old times. Dora was the loving mother, mother-in-law, and proud grandmother (Mimi) of Rob and Laura Reid of Port Dover (Adam and Ben), Elizabeth and Richard Goldman of Toronto (Alexandra and Reid), and David and Debbie Reid of Port Dover (Alexander and Piper). Dora was pre-deceased by her parents David and Mary (Ross) Liles and her stepmother Agnus (Johnstone) Liles. Dora will be fondly remembered by her sister Evelyn Schwalm of Hamilton, her brother-in-law Alastair Reid and sister-in-law Heather Reid of Burlington, sister-in-law Joyce Liles of St. Catharines, and her many nieces, nephews and friends. She was predeceased by her brother Rev. James David Liles, her brother-in-law Lee Schwalm, and her sister in-law Elizabeth Von Steinner. Dora gave up the city life and moved to Port Dover after marrying Gord (Lachie) who was a local boy. She quickly made friends and formed her girlfriends’ circle. The girls started their coffee club every Wednesday morning at each other’s homes, and played euchre once a month. Dora was an active member of the Knox Presbyterian Church where she was one of the longest standing members of the Heather Club. Dora and Gord looked forward to their weekly routine with their best friends Stan and Ione Morris. Every Sunday they went to Church followed by lunch at one of the many local area restaurants they came across while out driving in the countryside. Dora worked for Ryerse Bus Lines for over twenty-five years. As children of both Gord and Dora we have many fond memories of going to the beach everyday in the summer with our family friends, swimming in our back yard, skating on Silver Lake and tobogganing in the winter, and going on many fun family vacations. We have now lost both of our parents, but we have a lifetime of wonderful memories. May they rest in peace together. A Church service for both Dora and Gord will be held later this summer. The family would like to thank Dr. Medve and all of the caring staff at Norview Lodge, Reverend Pamela Hogewoning for her beautifully prepared prayer, and Thompson Waters Funeral Home in Port Dover for making all arrangements. For those wishing, donations to Knox Presbyterian Church or the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be greatly appreciated. Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Dora
