Donna Rogers
February 18, 1952-April 21, 2020
It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Donna May Rogers on April 21, at St. Paul’s Hospital in Saskatoon. Her daughter was by her side as she was called to heaven at the age of 68. Donna’s family finds great comfort knowing that she is now pain-free and reunited with her loving husband, Dennis.
Donna was born on Feb. 18, 1952 to John and Verna Taylor in Foam Lake, SK. She spent her childhood on the family farm with her siblings Carolyn, Sheryl, Tom, and Lana. As a child, Donna enjoyed going for bike rides, having water hose fights, and Chinese skipping. She received her education in Foam Lake, graduating with the Class of 1970.
While in high school, Donna began dating a local boy, Dennis Rogers. Their relationship continued as Donna moved to Moose Jaw to attend the Saskatchewan Technical Institute. Upon completion of her secretarial course, she moved to Regina while Dennis finished his teaching degree at the University of Regina. Donna and Dennis were married on Sept. 2, 1972. They lived in Regina and Calgary while Dennis worked construction and Donna was an office secretary. In 1976, they moved home to the Rogers’ family farm in Foam Lake.
Upon their return, Donna worked at the School Board Office until she and Dennis welcomed their first child, Mark, in December of 1976. Two years later, their family was complete with the birth of their daughter, Marci. Donna and Dennis enjoyed spending time with family, friends, and neighbors. They were often found visiting around the fire, playing cards, camping at Fishing Lake, and going on trips.
The family was devastated when Donna was diagnosed with MS, and Dennis with cancer. After a long and courageous battle, Dennis passed away on Nov. 29, 1988. Donna was a pillar of strength during this difficult time. She continued to raise her children, with the support of family and friends while battling her MS symptoms. Donna worked at the Paulson & Ferraton Law Office and typed the United Church bulletin. She had a passion for sewing and made many of Marci’s figure skating dresses, blankets, housecoats and more. Donna enjoyed Tuesday afternoons spent with the “Gutter Gals” bowling team. She loved to bake, tend her flowers, and make crafts. Donna was especially proud of all her Grandchildren and loved spending time with them. If you knew Donna, you knew she was stubborn – it was her way or no way! But this stubbornness, combined with strength, is what allowed her to live the most independent life she could.
Donna leaves behind to mourn her children: Mark (Wendy) Rogers, and their children Macenzie (Dylan), Emery and Rhett; Marci (Kirk) Woytiuk, and their children (Carson, Easton and Kylan). As well as, her sisters: Carolyn (Maurice) Littlewood, Sheryl (Tony) Hoffman and Lana (Les) Mannen, and her brother, Tom Taylor. She will be fondly remembered by numerous nieces and nephews. Donna is predeceased by her parents, John and Verna Taylor, and her husband, Dennis Rogers.
Our family wishes to extend sincere gratitude to all of Mom’s friends and neighbours who came to “check-up” on her over the years. Mom had daily visitors over for coffee, and an endless supply of fresh garden vegetables and baking, as well as, “helping hands” whenever needed. True community spirit was evident in the support and kindness extended to Mom. Our family would also like to thank the staff of Foam Lake Home Care for their continued care of Mom, as well as, the staff at the Foam Lake Jubilee Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Foam Lake Health Care X-ray Fund. Due to COVID-19, a funeral service for Donna will be held at a later date. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Narfason’s Funeral Chapel & Crematorium.
