Donald Ross Meyers
Don Meyers passed away peacefully at home on May 2, 2020, after a short battle with cancer.
Born October 7, 1946 in Emo On, to Ethel and George Meyers,
Don moved to Atikokan in 1953 with his mother, brother and sister. He learned to be a responsible, honest and independent citizen, at an early age.
After High School, Don worked for the C.N. as a labourer, then began working at Steep Rock Iron Mines in 1965. At the mine, Don enjoyed a
variety of jobs from truck driver, to maintenance mechanic, to a planner in mill maintenance.
In 1969, Don married Joyce and their daughter Pam was born in 1972.
When the mine closed in 1978, Don was offered a job at Boise Cascade in Fort Frances as a maintenance planner. The family moved to Emo and purchased an apartment block and laundromat business. In addition to a busy life, Don and Joyce built a new house in 1984 and adopted their son Richard.
Motorcycling became Don’s hobby and he toured with a close circle of friends to many parts of Canada and the United States.
Don enjoyed his years at the paper mill and retired as a maintenance supervisor in 2001.
After retiring, Don and Joyce travelled with their camper to Mexico and Texas for many years, enjoying the warmth and friendship of so many. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary last summer, in their yard surrounded by family, friends and flowers!
Don was predeceased by his parents, Ethel and Jim Carruthers, father George Meyers, brother Gordon Meyers, nephew Duane Meyers and sister-in-law Marilyn Syrja.
Don lives on in the memory of his wife Joyce and children, Pam (Marvin) Van Heyst and Richard Peri. His two grandchildren Jenaya and Noah were his pride and joy!

As Don would say… “I have had a good life!” A gathering in Don’s memory will be held at a later date.
