Obituary
It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Donald Joseph Gionet, loving husband of Claudianne (Albert), which occurred on Friday, February 21, 2020 at the Saint John Regional Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Born December 29, 1938 he was the son of the late Hyacinthe and Victoire (Chiasson) Gionet.
Donald cherished his family more than anything, he spent his time taking his family on camping trips in their tent-trailer (not-glamping). Most recently, he enjoyed going on Sunday drives with his loving wife, while they listened to the country jamboree and other favourite music.
He began his working career as a fisherman with his dad, and then worked for various construction companies over the years and was a member of the Labour’s Union. At the age of 37, Donald went back to school to get his tugboat license and became a Captain.
Donald was a proud member of the Club Arc-en-Ciel and was a part of the Local 6770 Knights of Columbus.
Along with loving his wife, of 56 years, Claudianne, he is survived by his sons; Mario (Brenda) and Michel (Carrie), his brother Gilles (Gloria), sisters; Rolande and Jeannine, his loving grand children; Chad (Jennifer), Kyla (Marshall), Joshua and Adrian, as well as a great-grandchild who is on the way, and along with several cousins, nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother Alyre, infant brother; Ronald, and his sisters; Martina and Catherine.
Arrangements are under the direction of Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, where visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 25, 2020 from the hours of 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held from St. Francois-De-Sales Catholic Church (77 Ragged Point Road) on Wednesday, February 26 at 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow at a later date.
