Obituary
Black, Donald Fraser
With deep sadness, the family announces the passing of Donald Black on January 28, 2020 at the Campbellton Regional Hospital at the age of 91.
Left to mourn are his son Allison (Holly) of Saint John, three grandchildren, sisters-in-law Annie Black of Nash Creek; Millie Black of Moncton; Roberta DeCourville of Stonehaven; Eva Gladys Miller of Toronto; brother-in-laws Bruce Searle of Napan and Boyd Hillock of Chatham. Uncle Donald will be sadly missed by his many nieces and nephews who spent many a summer day at the family cottage.
Born in Nash Creek on November 20, 1928, Donald was the son of Edgar and Marguerite (Hamilton) Black. He remained in the area throughout his life and was a much-loved neighbour, respected citizen and devoted member of Bethel United Church. He was employed at McMillan’s Wholesale Ltd.; Jacquet River Save Easy; and ended his career at the Brunswick Smelter. Never shying away from hard work, Donald grew up on the Black farm and continued to help out on the farm well into his adulthood. Once a farmer, always a farmer and this proved to be the case even when he moved into the Darlington Manor where he planted and tended to lush vegetable gardens for many years. Donald loved his church and the people in it. He was very proud of Bethel United and was always willing to help out in any way he could whether it was mowing the grass, helping out at church suppers, or maintaining the building. He was often the first person at church every Sunday morning to make sure the heat was on and the steps were shovelled.
.
He was predeceased by his loving wife, Jean (Hillock) Black, his daughter Kimberly, and an infant son. Being the last surviving member of the Black family, Donald was predeceased by siblings Nancy, Peggy, Harvey, Helen, Gordon and Ruby.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff at the Darlington Manor, his home for the past nine years, and to the attentive nurses and doctors at the Campbellton Regional Hospital for the wonderful care provided to Donald.
A funeral service to celebrate Donald’s life will be held on June 27, 2020 at the Bethel United Church in Nash Creek at 11 am.
If desired, donations may be made to the New Mills Protestant Cemetery, Bethel United Church or a charity of your choice.
Arrangements are in care of MacMillan’s Funeral Home, Black Point, N.B.
