Donald’s Obituary
Boyce, Donald – 83, Port Howe, passed away peacefully with his family around him Thursday, November 26th, 2020 at his beloved cottage. Born in Springhill, he was a son of the late Harold and Catherine (Harroun) Boyce. Donald did many many things over the years. In his early years he was a true Springhill miner, who even survived the 1958 Bump. He was a foreman at Buckham Mills Factory for many years. He founded the Boyce’s Carpenter Shop with his sons in the 1985. Donald was a self-taught artist who enjoyed painting in watercolor, acrylic and oil routinely giving works to friends and strangers alike. He often donated his works of art to local hospitals and charities. He was a former Canadian Legion National Doubles Darts Champion and he played for many years after. He enjoyed dancing, especially the jive. Most of all Donald loved time with his family at the cottage at Cameron’s Beach. Donnie had many colorful stories about his life, none we can write here. He is survived by his partner, Elsie Peterson; children, Allan Boyce, Halifax; Pat (Liz) Boyce, Bible Hill; Grant (Jennifer) Boyce, Pictou; Joy Boyce (Kirk Yanofsky), Dartmouth; Wade (Paula) Peterson, Port Howe; Trevor (Debbie) Peterson, Kolbec; grandchildren, Katelyn and Travis Boyce; Erika (Nic) Hunter-O’dette; Taylor Peterson; Paige and Fife Yanofsky; Will and Charlotte Peterson; great-grandson, Finn O’dette. He is also survived by his brothers, Harold and Robert; sisters, Linda and Bonnie and many special nieces and nephews and many dear friends. He was predeceased by his wife of 42 years, the former Hazel “Joyce” Fife; brother, John “Jack”; sisters, Joyce, Helen, Patsy Ann and Diana. Cremation has taken place in the care of MacDiarmid’s Funeral Home and Crematorium, Oxford (902-447-2930). At Donnie’s request there will be a Celebration of Life in his honor at the cottage at Cameron’s Beach hopefully in the Summer of 2021. Details to follow at a later date. In the lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of your choice. We would like to thank Dr. Blakie, D. Mc Williams and Dr. Short and the Cumberland Palliative Team for the wonderful and kind care of our father. We like to thank all of the VON nurses and home care staff who so graciously cared for our dad at home. Finally, we would like to thank all of our dear friends and family for their love and support during this time.
