Mr. Donald Baker
Donald Richard Baker of Chatham passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of his family on Thursday, October 29th in his 88th year. Predeceased by his wife Leona (Amerlinck) 26 years ago and most recently by his loving partner of 25 years Margaret Lawton. Don was the cherished father of his sons Doug (Diane) and Tom (Barbara) and a beloved grandfather to Lauren, Mathew and Cameron. Predeceased by his parents Jack and Mae (Armstrong). The oldest of six children, he is survived by his siblings; Dorothy Randall, Bob (Betty), Jim (Karen), Meta Green and Rae (Mary) along with many nieces and nephews. Don was a dedicated salesman for Silverwood Dairies for 40 years. He enjoyed travelling and his excursions took him throughout much of Canada, the United States, Europe, China, Australia, and New Zealand. He loved to read and was a fan of many genres of music, especially the Big Band era. Don was an avid golfer who displayed his two “Hole in One” trophies proudly! He truly enjoyed sharing the highs and lows of his rounds. Don was a wonderful storyteller, often reminiscing and sharing the past with great fondness and detail. Don always enjoyed hosting and attending both Baker and Amerlinck holiday gatherings and remained steadfast and loyal to his family and friends. You will be forever in our hearts Papa Don.
The Family will gather privately for the interment at Maple Leaf Cemetery, Chatham. A Celebration of Life will be announced in the spring.
