Obituary
It is with great sadness that the family of Dixie Jones announces her passing on Friday, April 3, 2020.
Dixie was born March 30, 1951 to Chester & Lucille Stroman. Dixie was a unique and caring individual who touched the lives of all who knew her. Dixie had a great sense of humour and a unique laugh that could be heard around a room.
Dixie was a graduate of the Warner High School and SAIT College of Nursing. Dixie returned from Nursing School and married Bob Jones on October 3, 1970. They lived on the Jones farm near Warner until 2016 when they moved to town. Dixie worked at the Border Counties General Hospital in Milk River until she became a mom to Kim in 1978, followed by Jason in 1980. Dixie was an amazing, loving, and dedicated wife & mother that would do anything for her children and their friends that came out to the farm. Once Jason started kindergarten Dixie started work as a Teacher’s Assistant at the Elm Spring Hutterite Colony School and loved every minute of helping all the kids. After assisting the school kids Dixie took on the kitchen at the Warner Civic Center cooking up food for everyone. Dixie was famous for her Mc Dixie sandwich and was called The Dixie Chick by the Warner Minor Hockey kids & parents.
Dixie loved to go camping with the kids and enjoyed many trips to Mexico, Panama & Cuba with friends & family. Dixie also enjoyed going to visit her parents in Indio, CA where Chet and Lou had their winter home.
Most of all, Dixie loved her 3 grandchildren. She loved to do crafts and play games with them. The grandkids definitely put a sparkle in Grandma’s eye.
Dixie was predeceased by her parents, Chet & Lou Stroman; sister Terry McLeod and brother-in-law Jim Black.
Dixie will be loving remembered by her husband Bob Jones; daughter Kim Owen (Deven); son Jason Jones (Tracy); grandchildren Ethan, Ally & Jackson Jones; sisters Deb Black & Wendy Scinski; brother-in-law Gunner McLeod, as well as numerous nieces & nephews.
The Jones, Owen and Stroman families would like to send out a huge thank you to Dr. Krogg and the healthcare staff at the Milk River Long Term Care and also to Dr. Shukkoor and the healthcare staff at the St. Michaels Palliative care unit. The level of care that Mom received while in these facilities was above and beyond. The compassion and care that you showed Dixie was impeccable during her final days and hours with us.
There will be a private family service at the Warner Cemetery along with a Celebration of Life in the future when we can enjoy drinking a Corona and not hide from it.
Flowers are gratefully declined. Those who wish, may make a memorial donation to a charity of your choice or see if your neighbour needs some help during this time as that is what Dixie would have done.
Cremation has been entrusted to Martin Brothers Funeral Chapels.
