CUNNINGHAM, DICK
RETIRED ONTARIO HYDRO
Dick passed away peacefully in palliative care, at the Ottawa General Hospital on Christmas Eve, December 24, 2020. Beloved husband of Mary (née Murphy), loving father of Mark (Jen) and David (Lauren), special Pop of Wyatt Cunningham who was his pride and joy and who brought so much happiness into Dick’s life and a little granddaughter who will arrive soon. Dear brother of Mary Kavanagh, Carm Cunningham, Eva Yantha (late Barry), Laura Broome (Don), Irene Yantha, and Adele Coulas (Ron Leblanc). Brother-in-law of Fran and John Power. Predeceased by his parents Basil and Monica Cunningham (née O’Neill ) and his brother Joe Cunningham ( Teresa).
Dick had a 35 year career with Ontario Hydro in electrical maintenance, at the Merivale Station. Dick loved the outdoors especially hunting, snowmobiling, four wheeling, boating, cruising, and 41 years of camping at Glenalee Campgrounds in White Lake. NOTHING could compare to the joy he felt when he was at his farm.
Special thanks to his longtime family physician Dr. Barbara Yates, oncologist Dr. Goindi for her compassion, palliative care physician Dr Parson for his understanding, his friend Brian Crotty who called him every night and all the special friends who drove Mary every day to and from the hospital.
Dick will be remembered for his sense of humour, his work ethic, his kindness, his willingness to help anyone do anything, and as the man who had every tool in his truck, to fix almost any problem. In memory of Dick , please consider helping a friend.
Due to Covid-19, there will be no celebration. Cremation has taken place.
