Diane Marjorie Parkinson nee Cruikshank 2020

Diane Marjorie Parkinson (nee Cruikshank)
1954-2020
It is with deep sadness that our family announces that Diane Parkinson (nee Cruikshank) passed away peacefully at home on August 10th, 2020.
Diane is survived by her beloved husband of 46 years, Fred; her mother, Marjorie Cruikshank; four children, Shannon (Ernie), Heather (Matt), Joni (Bruce), and Delany (Mark); nine grandchildren, Kaylin, Sara, Mason, James, Louis, Ethan, Bree, Saxon, and Adeline; her brothers, Harvey (Sharon) and Don (Beth) Cruikshank; her nieces Lauren, Chrissy, and Arli and nephew Troy; and seven great nieces and nephews. Diane is predeceased by her father, Lorne Cruikshank.
Diane’s family was her focus and joy and she was always planning gatherings and trips to be together. She was known for bringing the games and activities resulting in laughter and new traditions. Time spent with Grandma often included exploring nature, learning a new craft, getting messy, playing sports or games, and using lots of creativity. There was always something new and fun at Grandma’s house.
Diane grew up in Waskada, Manitoba on the family farm. As the youngest child, her older brothers enjoyed playing tricks on her but she soon learned to get them back. Diane’s school days in a small country school created multiple friendships that continue to this day. Shortly after graduation, Diane moved to Winnipeg for school and became an Administrative Assistant. She started dating Fred, who she knew from visiting her Grandma in Miami, and they were married in 1974 and moved onto the Parkinson family farm. Fred and Diane farmed together for 44 years until their retirement in 2018. Diane also completed her Early Childhood Education Diploma and enjoyed working in the Miami Children’s Facility for many years.
Diane has always been an active member of the community both through volunteering and her many activities. Some of her best times were spent playing ringette with the Miami Ringdingers, golfing and curling with her friends, and taking part in fairs, horticulture shows, and community events.
Diane had many talents and interests including sewing, gardening, painting, crafts, cake decorating, and piano. She had never-ending ambition to try something new including successfully surfing during a family vacation last summer. Diane and Fred developed a love for travel, and with friends, they have explored many international destinations together.
Diane was blessed with many wonderful friends locally and at Good Life Resort in Mesa, Arizona where they have enjoyed winters for the past few years. Diane was always up for an impromptu gathering or an over-the-top planned celebration. Her energy was infectious.
The family would like to thank the staff at Boundary Trails Hospital who showed limitless caring throughout her treatments and final days. A family internment will take place on August 21st followed by an opportunity for friends and family to come together on-line for a celebration of her life. If friends so desire, donations may be made in Diane’s memory to Miami and Area Foundation or Cancer Care Manitoba.
