Dexter and his siblings spent the first few years of life with their Grandparents; Jack and Agnes Eagle Bear. Before Dexter started school the family moved to Fort Macleod, where they resided for a number of years, then moved the family to Old Agency where he finished school. Dexter decided to further his education and became a Registered Nurse. He found employment in Calgary, in the trauma unit, at The General Hospital. His job was very stressful and Dexter was a very hard worker, but as he became too sick from his diabetes the commute to and from Lethbridge and Calgary became too difficult for him to continue.
Although his health was not up to par, Dexter cared about family and raised his sister’s children; Kimberly, Lucy and Michael. Later he also took on the task of raising his niece Kim’s children as well, which were his world and he loved like his very own.
Dexter was a very kind, gentle and humble man who was always willing to help anyone in need. He took care of his mother Hazel before her health declined and she was moved to the Extended Care Unit in Raymond.
During the final two weeks of Dexter’s life, he was in Chinook Regional Hospital due to health complications. Family was there by his side until he passed away.
