Obituary of Demetrios (Jim) Begetis
Demetrios (Jim) Begetis
1958 – 2020
Jim Begetis passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer on Thursday, December 3rd, 2020 surrounded by his family. Loving husband to Sherry and caring father to Melodi-Eleni. Brother to Nick (Lise) and uncle to Thomas-John (TJ) and Christopher. Predeceased by his parents Thomas and Helen (nee Diakoumakos). Jim will also be missed by many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
Jim was the proud founder and owner of Jimmy’s Driving School (formerly Apollo Driving School) in Chomedy, Laval, Quebec. After meeting his wife Sherry, the pair later moved to Kingston where they became the founders and owners of Access Driving School. Jim has touched the lives of many of his students with his passion for teaching, his wit, and his stories that captured the attention of all who listened. Jim was a hard-working, intelligent man who prided himself on his strong work ethic and his love for teaching. Jim was a big family man who always put family first no matter what. When he wasn’t working and found a moment to himself, Jim could be found reading his books, playing Pac-Man, creating and solving puzzles, or indulging in a football game or movie. Jim was always quick on his feet when coming up with a joke, quip, or story for any situation encountered, and always knew the answer to any question you could have.
In keeping with Jim’s wishes, there will be a private family service held at a later date with the possible option of live streaming.
A special thank you to Jim’s team of doctors and to the staff at Providence Care Hospital in Kingston.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Montreal Neurological Institute-Hospital would be kindly appreciated, with special thanks to Dr. Kevin Petrecca who changed our lives in an instant and gave our family hope during such a hard time.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Demetrios Jim
