Delmar Del Berten Dyvig Tuesday January 28th 2020

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Delmar ‘Del’ Dyvig, after a brief battle with cancer, at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre on Tuesday, January 28, 2020 at the age of 84 years.
Del was born in 1935, in Drumheller, Alberta, to Bert and Ann Dyvig. His family then moved to Winfield, Alberta; where Del attended school and was raised on the family farm. Del then made his way to Edmonton; where he married his wife, Vivian (nee Swaile) in 1955, and began his career in the Furniture Business. With Del becoming a partner in National Home Furniture, he moved his young family to Camrose, Alberta, and then to Red Deer, Alberta, as the company expanded. A born salesman, he eased into retirement by selling appliances at Sears, and then RVs at Vellner’s and Uncle Ben’s. Del and Viv enjoyed a lengthy retirement, of over twenty-five years. During this time, they enjoyed many vacations, traveling to all corners of Canada and the United States, in their fifth wheel. They also enjoyed trips to Mexico, cruises to the Caribbean and Alaska. For forty years, Del started off his day with an early morning swim at the Dawe. He was an avid golfer in his younger days, and a talented handyman, who could fix or build just about anything. You could often find Del sitting on the porch soaking up the rays, building something in the garage, or barbequing something delicious on the grill. He always made time for a game of checkers with the grandkids, and even occasionally let them win a couple! Del will be lovingly remembered by his wife and best friend, Vivian, and would have celebrated their Sixty-fifth Wedding Anniversary this September.
He will be forever missed by his sons, Allan (Pat) and Darrel (Andrea), his grandchildren, Jesse, Georgia and Jackson, his sister-in-law, Marian Swaile, a number of nieces and nephews, and many friends he had made along the way. Del was predeceased by his parents, his sisters and their husbands, Joan (Leo) Cartier, Joyce (Emile) Cartier, and a brother-in-law, James Swaile. Our family would like to thank the Staff on Unit 32 of the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre for all of their care and support. We will always remember Del for his big heart, warm smile and kind eyes. He lived a life he can be proud of. He will be sadly missed and forever in our hearts. Rest in peace, Del.
If desired, Memorial Donations in Del’s honor may be made directly to the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre at www.rdrhfoundation.com. Arrangements in care of Parkland Funeral Home and Crematorium, 6287 – 67 A Street (Taylor Drive), Red Deer. 403.340.4040.
