Obituary of Deborah Karen Bursey
Passed peacefully away September 13, 2020 after a lengthy illness Deborah Karen Bursey at the CNRHC, Grand Falls-Windsor, surrounded by family and friends. Deborah was born on November 14, 1964 to Russell and Belle Bursey. Despite many health issues Debbie always had a positive attitude, a warm heart and a large smile. She enjoyed life to the fullest! She turned the sod at Corduroy Brook nature trail and was the first to cross the Centennial field bridge. She loved to travel, being a country and western music fan her favorite memories were of her trip to Nashville. There she actually sang at the Grand Ole Opry with artists Waylon Jennings, Conway Twitty, Smiley Bates, Dan Seals and Rita MacNeil. After meeting Frank Mills on one of her journeys he continued to write her from his home in the Bahamas. Some highlights of her life were meeting the Queen at a young age, and an autographed photo taken with Joey Smallwood.
Debbie spent endless hours crocheting, rug hooking, playing games on her iPad and watching her favourite TV programs with her mom, Belle her primary caregiver and constant companion. She also loved the many hours with her family and her dogs. She will be forever loved and missed by all those that knew her.
Predeceased by grandparents; Stanley and Jane Bursey; William and Mary Stone. Leaving to mourn with cherished memories are her mother Belle, father Russell, sister Roxane Bursey-Snow, brothers Russell (Huaqing), Lloyd (Rose), nephews and nieces Christopher Snow, Meenesi, Aaron, Timothy, Jade, Sarah and Greg Bursey.
Aunts and uncles; Melvina Wiseman, Rowena (Bert) Luff, Barry (Nellie) Stone, Bev (Harold) Rose (Bev the assistant chief), Bill Bursey, Ron Bursey, Faith (Sid) Middleton. Best buddy Glen Nichols, special friends (caregivers) Chrystal Paddock, Melanie Chippett and large circle of other caregivers over the years whom she loved dearly.
Debbie was instrumental in fund raising for the Exploits Valley Disability Association, raising thousands over the years. Typical of Debbie’s kind and thoughtful heart was one of her last requests to have her long hair donated to the Cancer Society. Unfortunately, due to COVID restrictions services will remain private. Donations can be made to the Epilepsy Newfoundland and Labrador.
