Dean Nyce Bergstresser December 25 2020

We sadly announce the sudden passing of Dean Nyce Bergstresser in his 71st year at his beloved mountain home that he built, on Tramore Road. On Christmas morning, December 25, 2020 With his partner, soul mate, best friend and cherished wife, of 30 years, Denise (Weckworth) by his side. Dean also leaves to mourn his much loved sister and brother, Linda Moyer (Clyde),and Phil Bergstresser (Betty) both of Telford PA. Loved brother -in -law’s Harold Weckworth (Patti), Roy Weckworth (Laila) both of Golden Lake and many adoring and adored nieces and nephews and their families in PA. Indiana, Golden Lake, Toronto and area. Dean was predeceased by his parents John and Ruth (Nyce) Bergstresser of Souderton PA., and his in-laws Abby and Esther (Mundt) Weckworth of Golden Lake.
Dean was a smart, gentle spoken and kind man. Who could build things at a very young age, having a keen interest in electricity, lighting or wood projects. One of his many achievements at the age of 11 years was to build a working oilrig, with an erector set and a wooden coke case, some plexy glass and some dirt and went on to win 1st place at a Science Fair. His successful project went on to be displayed at the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia and his entire family were given passes to tour the Institute. After attending Souderton High School, Dean went on to attend the Philco Institute of Electronical Engineering in Philadelphia. He secured employment as a plant engineer at Alderfer Meats.
After many years as a youngster, coming to Golden Lake, to vacation at “Wards Cabins” in Deacon, with his parents, family and friends he became smitten with the Mountain on Tramore Rd., When he was 16 years old he inquired about the property on the mountain. He borrowed the money from his Dad in the amount it would be to buy the 62 acres that he would eventually own and build his home. He bought it, paying his Dad back his loan in full. Once his house could be lived in, besides loving the area so much, he moved up full time in 1984. He became a Canadian Citizen as well in July 1995, having Dual Citizen Status.. Dean did jobs such as carpentry, driving a truck and eventually going back to further his education in 1992. He attended Algonquin College to become a Social Service Worker achieving The Renfrew County Award of Excellence obtaining a 4.0 average in 1994. He then accepted a full time job with The Phoenix Center in Pembroke as a Child and Youth worker until he retired.
Dean was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone who was in need. Hard physical work but a gentle kindness to the deer and birds, raising chickens and turkey’s and our cats Kali and Boots. Dean was a very spiritual person and after he and Denise married he became very involved in the Golden Lake United Church, serving in many capacities. His non-judgmental attitude and upbringing as a Mennonite, and attending his home church in PA, paved the way for instilling some sound values. He was an awesome tenor and took part in the Eganville Community Choir for many years. He and Denise also served on the board of The Valley Festival for many years. He loved Classical Music. He also was a member of the Board of the Men’s Project for a couple terms.. . He and Denise also delivered Meals on Wheels over the last couple years and he very much enjoyed brightening a senior’s day. Dean was a wonderful baker and enjoyed sharing his many exquisite end products with folks…
Dean and Denise enjoyed many years of the mountain house and cottage life but this past summer Dean suffered a concussion in July after a fall, which took the wind out of his sails.. .he had recovered from some balance issues with physiotherapy and had really done well and recovered to a much better degree of stability.
On Christmas morning he passed with out warning, very quickly and unexpectedly, but peacefully …
Together we had spoken recently of downsizing and moving off of the mountain in the near future and his biggest wish was to pass in the home he built, on the mountain.. . he got his wish.. God heard him… much too soon. He is flying high with the angels and soaring like the eagles over his beloved mountain and home, watching over us.. . guiding and protecting us.
Respecting Dean’s Wishes he will be cremated and a Celebration of Life Service will be held in the warmer months. Inturnment of ashes to be held at The Golden Lake United Cemetery on Island View Drive, Golden Lake. Professional services have been entrusted to the care of Zohr Family Funeral Home, Eganville. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to The Golden Lake St. John’s United Church Cemetery Fund or The Eganville and District Senior Needs Association (Echo Centre)

His Journey’s Just Begun
Don’t think of him as gone away
His journey’s just begun
Life holds so many facets
This earth is only one…
Think of him as living
in the hearts of those he touched
And nothing loved is ever lost
And he was loved so much….
