David Arthur Weir 1934 2020

Obituary of David Arthur Weir
David was born on November 15, 1934 at Kilmarnock, Scotland. He passed away peacefully on December 8, 2020, at the age of 86. He was predeceased by his parents, Adam and May (Hood) Weir of Kilmarnock, Scotland. David immigrated to Canada in 1956 and began employment with the Canadian Bank of Commerce (now CIBC). In 1959 he was transferred to Naicam, SK where he met Sonja (nee Andrews) and they were married August 12, 1961. After some time, he left the Bank and began working for the Workmen’s Compensation (now Worker’s Compensation) in Regina, where he remained until his retirement in 1998. David had a solid faith in God and His Son Jesus Christ, and he lived an exemplary Christian life. For many years he was actively involved with the Gideons and his church. His family, friends, books and travel were his delight. David will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Sonja; son, Steven Weir; Daughter, Rhonda (Kevin) Mercer; grandson, James Mercer; granddaughter Shannon (David) Howden; sister, Anna (Gordon) Neilson; nieces, nephews and cousins. A private family interment will take place in the coming days. Due to the present COVID-19 restrictions, a Celebration of David’s Life will be held at a later date. Donations in memory of David may be made to The Gideons, PO Box 3619 Station Main, Guelph, ON N1H 9Z9. Our heartfelt gratitude to the Staff at Parkside Extendicare for their loving, compassionate care of David.
