David Wesley Lines
1939-2020
David Wesley Lines was born on the fourth of April 1939, in Barrhead, Alberta and he died peacefully on December 3, 2020, of cancer. A big Thank-you to the staff at the Athabasca Hospital for making the past 2 ½ months bearable. Your patience and care were greatly appreciated.
David was named Gerald Hooper, the fifth child in a family of six. He was reunited with his birth family when he was 45 years old. His brother Norman passed away five months ago, brother Keith and sisters Lorna, Margaret, and Vivian remain.
David was adopted by Edna and Wes Lines in 1945. He was predeceased by brothers Terry and Laurence Lines and sister Isadora Shank, as well as his nephew Larry Lines. He was also predeceased by his sons Donald and Warren, leaving to mourn his passing, his daughter Emily Champagne and wife Christobel, as well as his nephews; Darren (Wanida), Robert (Mon), Gordon (Delorus), Ron (Lorraine), Dale (Jan), and niece Judy (Frank) Banic and many other nieces and nephews.
Like many David started working at the age of 16, driving a lumber truck with his brother Terry. At age 18 he joined the Armed Forces, where he served for 13 years. He got his chefs training there. He cooked for many years in a live-in college in Yellowknife. He managed an A&W and ran a pizza shop in Fort Smith. When his family had grown up, he felt called to Christian Service and trained at the Church Army in Canada. It was here that he met Christobel and they were married in 1993. David served as a Chaplain at the Don Jail – Toronto, The Ottawa Detention Centre, and the Remand Center Edmonton. He and Christobel served as Street Chaplains in the Pas, Manitoba for 3 years.
This was followed by 6 years of parish Ministry in Lac La Biche, until they retired in 2010 and moved back to Athabasca both were active at All Saints Anglican Church, especially at the soup kitchen (A.S.K) where David made most of the soup for the past 3 years.
Due to Covid Restriction, a small private service was held on December 11, 2020, at 2:00 P.M at the Athabasca Community Chapel.
Burial of ashes, date still to be set, once covid has lost its sway.
Donations can be made to the Cancer Society or the All-saints memorial fund.
