David Howard Dave Callaghan 19592020

David Howard “Dave” Callaghan
1959-2020
David Howard “Dave”
Callaghan – 60, North River, passed away
suddenly at home on Friday, September 25, 2020. Born in Truro, he was
a son of the late Frederick “Fred” Callaghan and grew up
in his grandparent’s, the late Howard “Bubbles” and
Bertha (Wallace) Hanham, house.
Dave served with Canadian Armed Forces
(PPCLI). Dave ran a used sporting goods store, Callaghan’s Double Play
Sporting Goods in Truro for many years. After closing his store, Dave
worked as a jail guard at Truro Police Service until retirement. He
was an avid hunter, flea market enthusiast and regular seller at gun
shows. He was a natural born salesman, and the kids remember sleeping
under the tables at shows throughout the years. These markets and
shows were a family affair.
He had a huge heart and his wife and kids
will forever remember his willingness to help at any time of day or
night, in the rain or the snow, to make sure they were looked after.
Dave’s kids knew that they could count on their dad for
advice, and to be in their corner even if they were wrong. Dave was
his wife’s and kid’s biggest supporter.
Dave will always be remembered for his sense
of humour. He always had a good or corny joke to tell anyone he knew.
Dave was a talkative personable human and there weren’t many
places Dave went without stopping to talk with someone he knew, no
matter where he went. Dave loved a good prank, too; this is something
he shared with his granddaughter, Roxiee. They were either pranking
each other or in on a prank together. Dave had a special place in his
heart for veterans and the homeless and he would often buy
meals for the homeless around town.
Dave was a military man through and through.
Dave raised his kids like he was still in the military, but they knew
he was there for them no matter what. Dave will forever be remembered
for his gift of gab and his sense of humour, but most of all,
his huge heart and love for his family.
Dave is survived by his loving wife of 32
years, Eva (Owen); stepmom, Gloria (MacKenzie) Callaghan, Stewiacke;
children, Katrina Callaghan (Keir), British Columbia; Katelyn
Callaghan, Truro; David Callaghan Jr., Truro; granddaughters, Kiana,
Roxiee; brothers, James “Jamie” (Angela) Callaghan,
Kennetcook; Scott Callaghan (Kelly Skanes), Martock; many nieces and
nephews.
Honouring Dave’s wishes, there
will be no visitation or funeral. There may be a celebration of life
for family and friends in the future. If so desired, donations to
Wounded Warriors Canada are welcomed.
Arrangements have been entrusted to
