Dave was born January 5th, 1950 in Lindsay. He was the third of eight children, son of Victor and Delia Burns. Dave was the loving husband and best friend of Dianne Burns for 47 years. They were married in the Little Britain United Church on October 7th, 1972. Dave built a home on a beautiful piece of land just outside of Little Britain to raise their family. He was the proud father of Arron (Deanna) Burns, Andre Burns (predeceased), and Renee (furry friend Buddy) Burns. Dave fell into parenthood easily and was very proud of his family. Dave spent the majority of his career working at General Motors in Oshawa, providing well for his family. He loved the outdoors, hunting with his buddies, fishing, traveling with his wife and spending time with his friends and family. Sadly, Dave and Dianne lost their second born son to a tragic accident in 1999. Dave was proud to be called Papa as he welcomed his grandchildren, Clayton, Tyson, Annie and Madalyn, into the family. Dave was the dear brother of Theresa (Wilf) Ludlam, Evelyn (Charlie) Stevens, Stephen (Colleen) Burns, Kathy (Brian, predeceased) Morey, Philip (Ria) Burns, Janet (John) Robertson, Roger (Shelley) Burns. Remembered by brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws Carl (Helen, predeceased) Hanshaw, Donna (Gord) McMillan, Kevin (Tracey) Hanshaw and Aubrey (Kay) Hanshaw. Loved uncle of many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents, Victor and Delia Burns and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Bruce and Helen Hanshaw. After retiring from GM, Dave took a part-time position with the City of Kawartha Lakes. He enjoyed his time at the local arenas and was well respected in the community. After fighting a long and courageous battle with cancer, Dave peacefully entered into rest at the Toronto General Hospital on December 31st, 2019 at the age of 69. Dave will forever be remembered for his quick wit, gentle kindness and his love for his family and friends. A celebration of Dave’s life will be held at the Little Britain United Church, 1022 Little Britain Road, Little Britain on Sunday, January 5th at 2pm. On this day, Dave would have been celebrating his 70th Birthday. Donations to the Kidney Foundation of Canada or the Canadian Cancer Society would be greatly appreciated by the family and may be made at the Mackey Funeral Home or online at www.mackeys.ca
