Darlene J. Smith
1929-2020
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our dear aunt,
Darlene Josephine Smith at the age of 90. Born in Upper Wicklow, NB,
she was the daughter of the late Wendell and Myrtle (Wyman) Smith. She
was predeceased by her only sister, Winnifred (Harley)
Kilcollins.
After completing a grade 8 education in a small, rural school in Upper
Wicklow, she worked several years as a housekeeper for families in the
community. At the age of 22, she attended a hair stylist school in
Bangor, Maine and after graduation, she became an instructor at the
school for several years. Moving back to Wicklow, she set up her own
beauty salon in Florenceville, NB and eventually moved her business
back to Wicklow, where she continued as a hairdresser until retirement
at the age of 65. Darlene was a faithful member of the Wicklow Baptist
Church.
She leaves to mourn her nephew, Calvin (Brenda) Kilcollins of
Hantsport, NS; Niece, Cathy (Raymond L.) Drost of Wicklow, NB; Great
Nieces, Sara Kilcollins of Ottawa, ON and Melissa (Mitch) Baker of
Clairmont, AB; Great Nephews, Adam (Kristi) Kilcollins of Oceanside,
CA and Carl (Maryse) Drost of Oromocto, NB; as well as many cherished
great great nieces and nephews.
Our family wish to thank the staff of Carleton Place in Hartland and
Riverside Court in Woodstock as well as Doctors and staff at Upper
River Valley Hospital for their care and compassion these past few
months as our Aunt’s health declined.
A graveside committal service will be held in The Pomphrey Cemetery,
Upper Wicklow, at a later date. Donations can be made to The Pomphrey
Cemetery, Wicklow Baptist Church or to a memorial of the donor’s
