Obituary of Daphne Eva Atkins
Daphne Eva (Hardy) Atkins, of Pictou, passed away on September 12th, 2020, in Aberdeen Hospital’s Palliative Care Unit.
She was the daughter of the late Fredrick and Ethel (Gilby) Hardy. Daphne was born on April 14, 1929 in Finchingfield, Es, England.
Daphne served in the Royal Air Force as a Flying Officer with the Princess Mary’s RAF Nursing Service platoon, as a registered nurse. As part of the RAF, Daphne was assigned to various bases throughout the Middle East and saw active service in Aden. She was awarded a service medal with an Arabian Clasp for this active service.
After her RAF service, Daphne continued her career as a registered nurse and midwife and was head nurse at several hospitals in the UK, Eastern and Western Africa, and Canada.
Daphne is survived by her son, Martin, daughter in law; Wanita (Jenkins); and grandchildren, Jade, Tylor, and Caleb-Dain.
Daphne was predeceased by her brothers, George, Horace “Dick”, Reginald; and sisters, Blanche, Elsie, and Hilda.
No visitations or flowers by request. Family graveside service only.
Cremation has taken place and burial of the ashes to follow at the St. James Cemetery.
Donations in Daphne’s memory may be made to VON, charities specializing in heart and lung disease, or another charity of your choice.
