1937-2020
It is with great sadness that we announce
the passing of Daniel “Butch” Angus MacNeil, age 82,
on Wednesday, April 8, 2020, peacefully at home in Trenton,
NS. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years,
Verna (Grant) MacNeil. He is also survived by his
children: Bernard “Beaver” (Karen); Margie Worthen;
Daniel (Marilou); Genette; and Paula (Jim) MacCuish; 11 grandchildren
and 10 great-grandchildren; brothers: Jim (Margie); Lawrence
“Babs” (Carol); and John (Alma); brother-in-law,
Bert Martin. He was predeceased by parents, Angus and Genetta (Lucas)
MacNeil; sisters, Anna (Ronald) MacMillan, Jean Martin, Mae (Henry)
Marcott; brother, Alex; and granddaughter, Faith
Worthen.
He was retired after 46 years of service at
Trenton Works. A two-time inductee into Pictou
County Sports Heritage Hall of Fame for Hockey and Softball, he was an
avid sportsman who especially enjoyed the Toronto Maple Leafs and
Toronto Blue Jays. Butch was the center of all family gatherings
hosted on Oak Street. Recently, he and Verna marked
their 60 th Anniversary which was
celebrated at home with his children, grandchildren and
great-grandchildren. He was often found seated in
his special chair, surrounded by three generations of loving
family. He enjoyed a good teasing, making the
laughter and some sports banter.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial service
will be held at a later date. Donations in memory
may be made to the Heart and Stroke
Foundation. Arrangements are under the direction of
R.H. Porter Funeral Home.
