Obituary for Daniel Alexander Sieben
February 28, 1956 – August 25, 2020
It is with great sadness that our family announces the passing of our beloved husband, father and grandfather Daniel Alexander Sieben, on August 25, 2020 at the age of 64.
Born in Provost Alberta, to John Joe And Mary Marie Sieben, Dan was the youngest of nine children and discovered his love for collecting at a young age. His collections were numerous, but his biggest passion was for stamp collecting. His extensive collection was meticulously cataloged and recorded. Over the years he became an avid philatelist, and in turn developed a vast understanding of history and geography through his collection.
When he wasn’t organizing his stamps, he was watching sports; CFL, NFL, NBA, MBL, NHL you name it! While Dan loved all sports, hockey topped the list. He found great joy in watching his grandsons play hockey and could often be found watching NHL games or sports highlights. A numbers man, he enjoyed having card nights with his friends and family, always amazing them with his ability to calculate and keep score in his head.
15 years ago, Dan met the love of his life, Donna. Their life was full of family gatherings, various dog performance events and traveling. Dan was always excited to plan their next travel adventure with his gift for detail. While traveling was very important to them, family was first and foremost as Dan and Donna were very proud of the family they blended together.
His knowledge and passion for finance saw Dan embark on a distinguished career as a CPA, which ultimately led him to his role as the Finance Manager of the City of Grande Prairie. His career was driven by a love for his work but also the ability to mentor the people he worked with. With a belief in giving back to his community, Dan was a devoted volunteer for many years dedicating his time to Rotary Grande Prairie, Victims Services and A’s Hockey. He was always willing to help at fundraising events and gladly shared his knowledge in accounting to help many other organizations and people in need.
Family was everything to Dan and he was everything to us. His kind heart and quick wit will be dearly missed.
Dan is survived by his wife, Donna Sieben, his children; Jeff (Alana) Sieben, Nick Sieben, Lana (Blair Pinnock) Sieben, step sons; Brian (Bonnie Hein) Fox, Jordan (Larissa) Fox and grandchildren; Jada Hein, Mason Fox, Amelia Fox, Sullivan Fox, Tristan Sieben and Sabella Sieben. His siblings; Loretta (Wilf) Weinkauf, Marie Stang, John (Diane) Sieben, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his siblings; Catherine Bowick, Josephine Rohrer, Saloman Sieben, Dorothy Keller, Joseph (Joe) Sieben along with his parents; Mary Marie Sieben and John Joe Sieben.
We couldn’t be prouder of the man he was and though he set the bar high, as a family we will do our best to carry on his legacy of integrity, kindness, and selflessness. “Just be a good person.” To honor his final wishes there will be no service but if you so wish please consider making a donation to the WarAmps of Canada.
