Dale Leslie Munro passed away at Prince Albert, SK in his home on the morning of May 1, 2020. His loving wife of 55 years and family were by his side. He was 76.
Dale was born on April 28, 1944 in Regina, SK to parents, Robert (Bob) and Mildred Munro. He attended Scott Collegiate. Dale married Judith (Judy) Dobson on April 15 in 1965. The couple resided in Regina for the first few years where Dale worked as a deliver driver for Palm Prairies. He also operated his own barbershop and was a commercial layout artist for Simpsons. There they welcomed two daughters, (Jody & Heidi). From Regina, the young family moved to Riceton, SK. Shortly after the move another daughter, (Cindy) was born. Dale continued to work as a commercial layout artist and picked up employment as a fuel driver rom the local Co-op and as a farm hand at a sheep ranch. The family remained there for about six and a half years and welcomed a son, (Rob). In that time, Dale began managing an ice cream shop (The Arctic Princess) in Kipling, SK on behalf of his Dad. The family followed him there and they temporarily settled in Kipling. In Kipling, Dale worked construction for Bob Bernat. In 1974 they purchased a small parcel of land west of Kennedy and moved a house onto the acreage. Daughter, (Laura Lee) was born in 1977, making the family complete. Dale and Judy remained there until moving to Prince Albert, in 2004.
Dale farmed a small mixed farming operation for years on the Kennedy farm. Many stories can be told of the gamily chasing pigs out of the garden or cattle that wandered into town. He started his own construction business and was busy in the rural areas. He continues with his construction business until he was hired seasonally with SaskParks and worked at Moose Mountain Provincial Park.
Dale loved to create and his “happy place” was doing just that. He was a skilled woodworker and incredible multi-media artist. He could envision a creation and magically make it happen. He also had a passion for music and dance. Dale and Judy could easily be spotted on a dance floor and loved to jive. Dale has a “thing” about his hair. When other men were sporting buzz cuts, Dale preferred that Elvis look and he wore it well. He enjoyed Sunday afternoons with his family at Carlyle Lake and diving from the top of the towers. He could talk like Donald Duck, tried his best to sing Elvis and was an expert at pulling quarters from an unsuspecting grandchild’s ear. He was known to share truly horrible “dad” jokes.
Dale was predeceased by his father, Robert (Bob), mother, Mildred, younger brother, Allen Munro, sister in law, Marie Munro.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Judy and their faithful dog, Peggy. Children, Jody (Dale) Palmer, Regina Beach, SK and their children, Monica (Andrew) Switzer; Katherine Levey (Jesse Scandrett); Nicole Level; Emma Levey (Jordan Bobst). Heidie Munro, Saskatoon, SK and children Mitchell (Camille) Holt; James Scarrow; Lindsay Scarrow. Cindy (Dale) Smyth, Carlyle, SK and children Sarah (Shaun) Johnson, Grace Smyth (Owen Harris). Rob Munro, Prince Albert, SK and children, Teigan (Darcy) Uhlik, Breylan Fiset (Sierra Schopp). Laura Lee Munro-McFarlane (Richard McFarlane), Prince Albert, SK and their children, Sadie McFarlane, Seamus McFarlane. Brother, Jerry Munro, Revelstoke, B.C.; sister, Sharon (Ken) Cowley, Kipling, SK; sister in law, Robin Munro. Fourteen great grandchildren, Caleb, Amayah, Eli Switzer, Jace Levey-Stevenson, Noah Scandrett, Justice Anderson-Holt, Kiptyn Anderson-Holt, Gage Holt and Nixon Holt, Cullen and Elliot Johnson, Rhys, Rhett and Riggs Uhlik, and long-time family friend, Brad Holt.
Memorial to be held at a later date.
In lieu of other tributes, friends and family may honor Dale’s memory by donating to the SHA Prince Albert Home Care Palliative Division; Prince ALbert SPCA; creating a special memory with their children and grandchildren or finding your own “happy place”.
