COLLEEN HAZEL HYATT ( BOLEN)
SHE HAS WORKED HER FINAL NURSING SHIFT
Colleen Hyatt 69 of Mine Centre Ontario passed away suddenly on January 17 2020.
Colleen was the youngest daughter of Marjorie and Dave Bolen, born April 1st 1950.
Colleen was raised on the family farm north east of Stratton. She attended public school at Shenston No1 and high school in Rainy River. After graduation Colleen attended Laverendrye School of Nursing to become an RNA. She then took a job at the University of Saskatchewan Hospital in Saskatoon to be closer to Terry.
Terry and Colleen married three months later, September 27, 1969. After 26 months Terry and Colleen moved to Thunder Bay. Colleen went back to school and became a Registered Nurse graduating in 1975. Colleen worked at Port Arthur General on the surgical ward for two years then transferred to McKellar Hospital ICU and worked there until they moved to Mine Centre in 1985.
Colleen then worked as Registered Nurse at Rainycrest Long Term Care Facility. She worked as the Nurse Manager on the east unit for many years. She was also the in-service education coordinator for a time during her employment there. She worked as the Director of Nursing for 2 plus years up to and including the merger with Riverside Hospital, before finishing her career. Colleen also maintained her American Nursing certificate for many years.
Colleen was very active in the community. She served on the Mine Centre Area School Board as an elected trustee, before serving three terms as Chair of the Board. She was also very active in the Mine Centre Community Hall Association, planning numerous dinners, parties and dances for everyone who chose to attend.
Her door was always open to everyone and the coffee and food was ready soon after you arrived.
Colleen was predeceased by her parents, David in 1998 and Marjorie in 2009.
Colleen is survived by Terry, her husband of 50 years. 3 brothers and one sister, numerous brothers-in law and sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews. She is greatly missed by Shady Shades, Bella Bear and Sandy.
Memorial services will be held Saturday February 1st, 2020 at 1 pm at Northridge Funeral Home, Emo Ontario with niece Dawn-Marie (Hyatt) Siebold officiating.
