Peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Monday, June 15, 2020. Coleman Joseph MacDonald of Williamstown; age 85 years. Beloved husband of the late Joan P. MacDonald (nee Barton). Special friend to Cathy MacArthur. Loving father of Greer Thornbury (Larry) of Kirkfield, Dawn Smits (David) of Summerstown Station, and Krista Mrzena (Dan) of Nepean. Cherished grandfather of Shawn, Bonnie, Colleen (Megan Lamont), Garret, Evan, Merina, and Brandon, and great-grandfather of Ainsley. Dear brother of Audrey McCardle, Shirley Abrams, Mickey, Lenore Wilkinson, Iris (Reg) Gervais, Alex (Betty) and Lynne MacDonald. Predeceased by his brothers Francis “Bud”, Duncan and Harold, and by his parents Wilfred and Daphne MacDonald (nee Lefebvre). Coleman will be remembered by the Barton Family, his many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Coleman was born at home, on the family farm – one of the few remaining bi-centennial farms in Glengarry. He milked cows with his brother Mickey until 2002 and continued to work the land until his passing. Coleman is known for having some of the best yielding crops in the area, and was among the first to plant soybeans. Coleman made a lasting impression on those in the agricultural world, especially the young people who worked on the farm. Although he died at the house next to the farm where he was raised, Coleman was fortunate to have travelled throughout his life. He had a passion for curling, and took every opportunity to sing its praises to those unfamiliar to the game. For this, he was inducted to the Glengarry Sports Hall of Fame. He was proud to tell others of his Scottish heritage and his Glengarry roots. He will be remembered for the sparkle in his eye, the stories and jokes he told, and for his ability to make people smile. In keeping with the physical distancing requirements, attendance during visitation and Mass of Christian Burial will be controlled. Visitation will be held at the Munro & Morris Funeral Homes Ltd., 46 Oak Street, Lancaster (613-347-3629) on Wednesday, June 17, 2020 from 2-4 pm & 7-9 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial with controlled attendance will be celebrated in St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Williamstown, on Thursday, June 18, 2020 at 2 pm. Interment will follow in the Parish Cemetery. Family and Friends are encouraged to drive by the family home on Tuesday, June 16, 2020 and Thursday, June 18, 2020 from 4-7pm. A celebration of life will be held in the future. For those who wish, memorial donations to the Canadian Cancer Society, Friends of the Ruins, The Bishop’s House St. Raphael’s, or to the Lancaster Curling Club would be appreciated by the family. As a Memorial to Coleman a tree will be planted in a Memory Woods.
