JOHNSON, Martin Clifford
Cliff Johnson passed away on May 30, 2020 at Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon at the age of 88 years. Cliff was born on April 16, 1932 to John and Florence Johnson in Tantallon, SK. He was the youngest of 7 children. The family later moved to Walpole, SK where he grew up and attended school. Cliff began working for CP Railroad when he was 17. He worked on the extra gangs in the summers and laid steel from BC to ON. When he was working in Churchbridge, SK he met Ida Eyjolfson and they were married three years later on July 18, 1958. He later worked at IMC Esterhazy Potash Mine for 7 years. In 1969 he had a chance to be a foreman underground at what was then Duval Potash Mine and later Cory Mine. Cliff moved his family to Saskatoon where he spend the next 51 years. After he retired from the mine he helped take care of the CN curling rinks. Cliff loved curling, camping, fishing, golfing and taking long trips with the family. He was a good cook and loved gardening. He coached ball and hockey for many years. He loved having the grandchildren around and later the great-grandbabies. You could always find him with a baby on his knee. Cliff was predeceased by his parents John and Florence Johnson, brothers Walter and John, sisters Clarise, Delta and Winn, brothers-in-law Clarence Halland, Angus Cameron, Frank Fraser, parents-in-law Jon and Erika Eyjolfson, grandson Ryan Johnson and great-grandson Mykel Johnson. He leaves to mourn his wife of almost 62 years, Ida, children Laurie (Shelly) Johnson, Debbie Leier, Vera Johnson, Myron Johnson, Rick (Elly) Johnson, 15 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren, sister Lillian Fraser, sister-in-law Verna Johnson, brothers-in-law Robert Goudie and Vern Eyjolfson, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. There will be no service at this time. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
