Clarice Melanson
1927-2020
Born in McAdam, New Brunswick on January 14, 1927, a birth
date that she proudly shared with both her Mother and her only
granddaughter.
Clarice was predeceased by her parents, Willard and Ivy
(Swan) Wilson and her older brothers, Arleigh and Herbert Wilson.
After graduating from McAdam High School, where she enjoyed
basketball, Girl Guides, ice skating and many summers at her parents
cottage at Harvey Lake, she moved to Saint John, accepting a
secretarial job for a large Canadian Insurance company. While living
there she met her future husband, Stanley, and they married on July 2,
1949.
Because of her husband’s many job opportunities
they moved several times throughout eastern and central Canada, first
to Fredericton, then Halifax, Ottawa, Toronto and finally settled in
Montreal for the next twenty-five years. Upon her husband’s
retirement they moved from Quebec to a newly built cottage at Harvey
Lake in New Brunswick where they spent the summers while spending the
winters for twenty-two years in Florida, making many new friends along
the way. During those times they travelled across the United States,
Canada, Mexico, UK. Europe, China, New Zealand, Australia, Alaska,
Hawaii and took several cruises throughout the
Caribbean.
In her earlier married life, Clarice sewed, hooked rugs,
knit, played badminton, golfed and played bridge with a weekly
neighbourhood group of women in Pointe Claire, Quebec. After she began
travelling her interests turned to sorting and identifying the many
photographs and then creating nearly forty albums of family and their
various trips. She loved to read and garden in the summers, producing
beautiful flower beds and thriving vegetable gardens around the
property. And most of all she thoroughly enjoyed having the family and
grandchildren at the cottage, watching them grow and mature over the
years.
She is survived by her daughter Lynn Melanson and her two
children, Kira Vrouvas and Brian Vrouvas, and her son Gary Melanson,
daughter in law Janet Melanson and their three sons, Timothy, Andrew
and Stephen.
At her request there will be no visitation or funeral
service. In lieu of flowers, a donation to a charity of your choice
may be made in her honour. Her ashes will be interment at a private
family gathering in the Harvey Community Cemetery at a later
date.
