Obituary of Clarence Calvin Brooks
Clarence Calvin Brooks, age 68, born May 3, 1951, passed away Friday, March 6, 2020 in his home under the loving and watchful care of his loving wife, Cassie and family. Calvin was a son of Mildred (Diggs) and the Late Clarence, who passed away in 1988.
Clarence was a dedicated member of New Beginnings Ministries and was known as the “Candy Man”, because he always had a pocket full of candy for the children. Family, friends and his community were important to Calvin. He never hesitated to help anyone who called on him.
Calvin started working at a young age and started his own business in 1984, Brooks Services, selling Hardwood and Contract Snow Removal, Trucking. As the business grew, he then became Calcrete Concrete Services Ltd., using his over 35 years’ experience working in concrete offering his expertise to service customers throughout the HRM area. Calvin took great pride in his work, making sure his customers were satisfied.
Calvin will be sadly missed by his partner and wife of 46 years, Cassie (Gough); daughters Abena (Marlon), Tanya (Floyd) and Angela; foster daughter Marina Gough; sons Curtis, Dion and Brad; godchildren Kelly (Steve) Mills, Kelsie Clyke and Rena Dantiste; eleven grandchildren; mother Mildred Brooks; sisters Patricia, Katherine, Nisaa and Aletta; brothers Reid, Basil, Martin, Winston, Derrick, Blois, Steven Brown.
Besides his father, Calvin was predeceased by his brother Murray, daughter Anita Lynn, sisters Claudia Crawley and Lavonne.
There will be a time for sharing and reflections on Friday, March 13, 2020 starting at 12:00 pm with a Celebration of Life following at 1:00 pm, both will be held in the New Beginnings Ministries, 26 Cherry Brook Road, Dartmouth. Arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home, 34 Coldbrook Village Park Dr., Coldbrook, NS, B4P 1B9 (902-679-2822).
