Clarence George Edward Garvey was born in Brantford, Ontario and passed away on May 25, 2020 in Trail, BC.
He is predeceased by his wife Shirley.
Clarence is survived by his son Michael (Valerie), his sister Ila and granddaughter Nicole. He is also survived by nephews, nieces and their families: Dave (Laurie & family), Ken (Terri and family), Vicki (Lindsay and family), Greg (Anna and family), Karen (and family)
Clarence was taken into foster care as a young boy. He was nick named “Tiny” due to his small stature. He often spoke positively of his experiences on the farm and all associated chores. He also developed a fondness for animals on the farm. He spent time working in a bakery in Burford, Ontario and spoke highly of his experiences. Dogs also became very important to him. He had several throughout time. He particularly enjoyed the dogs his son Michael had, and would stop by to give them bones and throw the ball.
After the farm, he spent some time in the Army. He loved his days as a paratrooper, and also spoke about how much he loved driving the Bren Gun Carrier. Shortly after his time in the Army, he married Shirley. He spoke fondly of Shirley’s mother Jessie and husband Fred, and later George. At home, he and Shirley always had an open door for people to drop by for a chat and coffee.
For work, he did a bit of all kinds of things. He worked in steel foundries, built houses, repaired cars and trucks, was a tow truck driver and hauled modular units, cleared brush, and worked at Canada Post repairing vehicles.
Clarence took pride, wherever he lived, in creating a workshop. There he loved to make whirligigs, lawn ornaments, recipe card boxes, small tables, plant boxes and anything else that caught his eye so he could work to replicate it. He also enjoyed helping others with anything he could.
When Shirley transitioned, he was challenged. After over 60 years together his heart was broken, and he always looked forward to one day joining with her again. His wish has now come true. His ashes will be mixed with Shirley’s and will buried at Mount Hope Cemetery in Brantford, Ontario.
Arrangements for a service in Nakusp is TBA.
