Clare’s Obituary
NEW GLASGOW – Clare Rodell Purdy, 91, New Glasgow passed away Monday, August 10, 2020 in Glen Haven Manor, New Glasgow.
She was a daughter of the late Edward Cyril and Doris Alexandria (Grant) Barrett. In her younger years, in Cape Breton, she was a gifted skater, winning many trophies and medals in speedskating. Upon completion of high school, she enrolled in the Royal Victorian School of Nursing, Montreal and became a Registered Nurse. In 1954, Clare married Reginald Carey Purdy and when her children were born, she dedicated her life to raising them. Her family were often greeted by the smell of fresh baked brown bread, pickles, strawberry jam and their favourite chocolate chip cookies. Clare enjoyed traveling with her husband, Reg, to many global locations. She was particularly fond of the time they spent in Barbados. Clare was an avid curler and was the skip of the Stellar Curling Club team that won the 1971 Provincial Championship. She, Reg and their children enjoyed many summers at their cottage in The Ponds. Clare was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, who always put her family before herself.
Surviving are daughter, Jane, New Glasgow; sons, Kirk (Paula), Maine, USA and their sons, Geoffrey, Ethan and Alex; Garth, Summerland, B.C. and his daughter, Solana.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Reg.
The family will receive visitors 10 – 10:50 a.m. Thursday, August 13th in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home Chapel from where funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. with Rev. Karen Ross presiding.
