Clara was born a hundred years ago, the much loved 9th child, of Heinrich and Maria Groening. She grew up on the farm in southern Manitoba. As a teen she became a Christian and clung to her faith in Jesus throughout her long life. At 20 she married her sweetheart, Aaron, and they soon began their family that grew to include Pearl, Carol, Arlene, Andy, Philip and Debra. Over the years she worked hard to be a support to her husband and her children with cooking, cleaning, sewing, office work and creating a home for them all. In 1980 she and Aaron moved to Chemanius to retire and enjoy their garden and their many grandchildren. This was followed by a move to a retirement home in Abbotsford. Then in 2011 they moved back to the Island and into the home of one of their children. Clara had many difficulties in her life, not least of them being the loss of her beloved Aaron after 71 years of marriage, but she was also aware of her many blessings. With a youthful spirit, a sunny smile and an encouraging word for everyone she touched many lives. She had a zest for life and looked forward to each new day and the joys that it would bring. Clara is deeply mourned by her children, and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and even some great great grandchildren. We love you Mom!
