Mom was born the sixth child of Alf and Amelia (Haines) Horne of Little Dover, Guysborough County. Mom is survived by her two older sisters Bernice and Grace. She was predeceased by her siblings Rita, Clyde, Elsie, Paul and Joan. Mom’s mother died when she was three. She was raised and loved by her Papa, her siblings, grandparents, aunts and uncles. They were a musical and fun loving family. Mom said they didn’t have much, but they did have lots of love.
She married the late Lloyd McLean in 1960 and had four children in under five years. Once “The Pill” became available she and her sisters decided the Pope could bear any further children he thought they should have, and they went on the pill.
Mom leaves behind her daughters Janice (Wayne) and Arlene. Her son Lorne and youngest daughter Wanda, and Arlene’s husband Allan all predeceased her. She is also survived by her grandchildren Matthew, Kyle, Sarah, Neil and Owen, and a multitude of nieces and nephews and their families.
Mom was a stay at home wife and mother. Her credo was “Depend on your family because they will always be there for you.” Mom took this to heart and acted as surrogate mother and grandmother to many. She provided a wholesome and safe haven to many of the family children on their summer breaks. She showed compassion, kindness and generosity throughout her life. She handled the deaths of those she loved with grace, resilience and faith, knowing that she would see them again. We know that it was a beautiful reunion when she walked through the Gates and reunited with Dad, Lorne and Wanda. She is now with her Mama, Papa and family.
Mom didn’t fly to the moon, build an empire or become world renowned. What she did was greater than that – she carried on a legacy of love and family to all who had the good fortune to know her. She was proud to be a member of the Horne family and proud to be from Little Dover. Her upbringing helped create the kind and gentle soul she was. During her short illness she took the time to say goodbye to her loved ones and allowed them to say goodbye to her. Heaven has a beautiful new angel. We will miss her love, her wit and her wisdom. We will carry her in our hearts til we meet again.

Janice and Arlene thank everyone for their caring support and words of comfort we have received. Mom’s Celebration of Life will be private due to COVID-19 restrictions.
