Cinderella ‘Cindy’ Helen Jean (MacKinnon) Munro
1931-2020
Munro,
Cinderella “Cindy” Helen Jean (MacKinnon) –
Whycocomagh, Age 89
After a life well
lived, Cindy passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 29th, 2020 at
Alderwood Rest Home, Baddeck. Born July 24th, 1931 in East Lake
Ainsle, she was the daughter of David and Annie (Butterworth)
MacKinnon.
Cindy spent her childhood on the hills of her beloved farm
with her siblings, Agnes, Irene, Mary, Lena, Lauchie, Edgar and
Sheila; then moved to Sydney to further her education finishing grade
eleven at Sydney Academy. After this accomplishment, Cindy spent five
years in Halifax where she was a telephone supervisor at MT&T.
Back in Cape Breton, while attending a shivaree, Cindy met her future
husband, Stewart Munro.
They were the first couple to be married at Grant United
Church on June 10th, 1954. While living in Whycocomagh they raised
their three children, Anne, John and Rodney. Cindy was a wonderful
homemaker and one was always welcomed into her home to enjoy good
conversation, many laughs and a cup of tea. After her children were
grown, Cindy enjoyed her work at the Fair Isle Motel. She loved to
travel to visit family that lived away or would often have family stay
with her on their visits to Cape Breton. Mostly, she cherished the
time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and always
had a cookie waiting for them in the cupboard.
Cindy will be lovingly remembered and is survived by her
husband, Stewart; her children and their families: Anne & Ken
Dorey and grandsons, Andrew and Neal, Bedford; John & Carole
Munro and grandchildren, Lindsey (Jamie), Jonathan (Barb), Matthew,
Blake and Callie, Whycocomagh; Rodney & Joanie Munro and
granddaughters, Emma and Grace, Whycocomagh; her great-grandchildren,
Rhylyn, Anthony, Zander and Quinn; her sister, Mary (Bill) Egan; and
her many nieces and nephews. Cindy was predeceased by her parents,
four sisters, two brothers and her great-granddaughter,
Alaina.
During Cindy’s last few years, she was blessed to
receive wonderful care by local Home Care support and while living at
Foyer Pere Fiset and in Loch Bhreagh at Alderwood Rest
Home.
