Christine Metzler Lehmann Friday December 11th 2020

It is with heavy hearts that the family and friends of Christine Metzler nee Lehmann, announce her passing on Friday, December 11th, 2020 after 93 years of grace and courage in her journey from her beloved native Germany to her new home a world away in Sudbury. She is predeceased by her husband Gustav (2002). She leaves behind in the Black Forest in Germany, much loved nieces and nephews, especially Anne Hengstler (husband Peter) and her sons Georg and Clemens, Ulrike and Isgard Madder, as well as many other relatives and friends. Born in Ober-Pechtal and raised in Gutach, she came to Canada in 1953 to follow and marry her love Gustav. While he worked in the Sudbury mines, Chris worked her way up with courage, determination, and competence to becoming the food manager at Kresge’s where she trained many an employee and fed countless hungry Sudburians. Gustav and Chris did often go back to Germany, which sustained them greatly, and Chris went back by herself many times. They enjoyed travels to sunny destinations of the U.S…and their cottage on Windy Lake was a paradise for them. In later years, health problems arose with age, but her friends and neighbours were always in her heart, especially her “adopted” daughter, Karen. Very special thank you to Rev. Catherine Somerville for her caring heart! Due to the trying times of 2020, if possible, a private graveside committal will take place at a time to be determined. Chris was a generous donor to many causes, feel free to imitate her! Arrangements entrusted to Lougheed’s Funeral Home.
