Obituary of Christine Hibbs
Margaret Christine Hibbs peacefully went to be with her Lord, on the 16 of October 25, 2020, at the Westview Care Community, Linden, AB.
Christine was born on the 25th of December 1935, Grimsby, England. She immigrated to Canada with her mother in 1947, living in Woodstock, N.B. After meeting and marrying her husband in1954, they moved to Saint John, NB, but settled in Halifax, NS, for 24 years. While in Nova Scotia, Christine’s career started as a bookkeeper at the Villa Nursing Home. Which led to a position with the Anglican Diocese of Nova Scotia.
While holding down a full-time career and raising her children, Christine also volunteered as a Sunday School Teacher and Guides/Brownies Leader. Christine was a member of the Rock Church of Halifax where she participated in the extensive Bible Study. During her years in N.S., Christine and her husband were actively involved in the Canadian Kennel Club. She successfully trained and showed “Pepper,” a Cairn Terrier, to his Obedience Championship, winning ‘Highest Scoring Dog in Final.’
In 1981, Christine’s spouse’s work brought them to Calgary. She liked it so much that they decided to stay. She enjoyed the open spaces and was always curious of what was over the next hill. The mountains also called to her, and many a weekend, would find herself on a rigorous hike. Immediately upon her arrival in Calgary, Christine secured employment with the Calgary Association for the Mentally Handicapped. After a number of years, Christine moved on to Allianz Insurance as a Human Resources Manager. She Stayed at this position until her retirement.
Christine spent her retirement years as a very active community member in the Village of Linden. Some of her undertakings included Care and Share, Seniors Exercise Program, Palliative Care, Linden Library, and Seniors Outreach.
Christine and Les attended the Linden Alliance Church until they moved into the Linden Lodge, where they participated in on-site services.
Christine is survived by her beloved Husband of 65 years, Leslie Hibbs. She is pre-deceased by her infant son, Keith Hibbs (1961). Christine has one surviving half-brother, John McIntyre.
Christine is survived by Six children: Angela Watson (Dan), Christopher Hibbs, Michael Hibbs (Dorothy), Stephen Hibbs (Yudeima), Gail Hibbs (Bruce), Elaine Foss (Dave); Nine grandchildren: Sherry, Tara, Jason, Jared, Charlotte, Douglas, David, Andrew, and Matthew; And Two Great-Grandchildren: Tanaeya and Joshua.
A memorial service will be announced at a later date in the Three Hills Capital. In lieu of flowers, the family would ask that you consider a donation to: ” The Mustard Seed Calgary ” OR ” Hope Mission Calgary .” The entire family would like to extend their thanks and appreciation to the staff at Westview Care Community for their tireless efforts with the care of our Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, Friend.
