Obituary
Christine Ann Carolyn Goertzen of Nobleford passed away after a very long battle with cancer Wednesday December 16, 2020 at the age of 64 years.
Christine was born in Calgary on April 1, 1956 to Gerd and Christa Voelske. She grew up in Coaldale, graduating from Kate Andrews High School. She was an excellent swimmer and worked as a lifeguard at the Coaldale Pool. Christine continued her education at the University of Lethbridge, receiving a B.Sc. degree in 1981.
Christine married Danny Goertzen in 1978 in Lethbridge before relocating to Nobleford in 1983 to raise their two sons while developing skills as a stained glass artisan in her spare time. She worked as a research scientist in the Department of Biological Sciences at the U of L and was published in three papers. After additional college courses Christine worked as a Central Supply Sterile Processing Technician and later Surgical Processing Technician at the Lethbridge Regional Hospital until her ongoing fight with cancer made her unable to work. Christine was originally diagnosed with breast cancer in 1992.
Christine is survived by her sons David Goertzen and Daryl (Pamela) Goertzen, grandchildren Benjamin Goertzen and Ada Goertzen, father Gerd Voelske, sister Cynthia James, and Danny Goertzen (divorced), as well as numerous nieces and nephews and their families. Christine was predeceased by her mother Christa Voelske and sister Katherine Piper.
A Celebration of Life Service will be postponed until April 1, 2021 in honour of her 65th birthday with additional details forthcoming. In lieu of flowers those who wish may make a memorial donation in her name to albertacancer.ca.
