Chester William “Chet” Goucher
It is with deep sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Chester William Goucher, 89, of Kentville, formerly Aylesford. “Chet” was the son of Lola Marie and Jason William Goucher and was born in Canard, Kings Co., before growing up in New Albany, Annapolis Co.
His early career was as a mechanic working with Vance Comeau Ford (Middleton), Milne’s Garage (Kingston branch) before becoming the Service Manager at Evangeline Motors (Kentville). In 1969 he became an Instructor of the Motor Vehicle Repair program at the Annapolis Valley Regional Vocational School (now Annapolis Valley Campus, NSCC), Middleton until retirement after 22 years in 1991. Along with his successful career, he enjoyed attending the various bluegrass festivals, gardening, and nature especially bird watching.
He was a member of the Harmony Lodge No. 52, A.F. & A.M., Aylesford, joining in 1966. He served as Worshipful Master in 1972 and ‘77 followed by the Secretary role from 1978-91. He was a member and Elder of the Aylesford United Church.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Lawrence; sister, Frances (MacLean); and first wife, Janet (Stevens). He is survived by his son, Christopher, daughter-in-law Christine, special granddaughter,Albany; wife, Marie (Patterson); stepdaughter, Sherri Kelley (Brine); step-grandson, Matthew Patterson (Steph); and step-great-grandchildren, Thomas, Samantha and Zakk.
Due to public gathering restrictions there will be no visitation and a private family funeral service will take place. Rev. John Moses officiating, with interment in Aylesford United Church Cemetery. A live webcast of the service will be available for viewing on the funeral home website at 12:55 p.m., AST, Tuesday, November 24, by selecting the “Live Stream” option at the top of the home page.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia, Victorian Order of Nurses – Annapolis Valley Branch, Valley Regional Hospital Foundation or a charity of your choice.
