CANDOW, Cherry, Nov. 8, 1934-Sept. 7, 2020. We deeply regret to announce the passing of the family matriarch, Cherry (Lush) Candow at the James Paton Memorial Health Care Centre on Labour Day, Sept. 7, surrounded by family. She was predeceased by husband James Candow,brother Sterling Lush and his wife Joan (Noftall) Lush, father John Lush, mother Myra (Keats)Lush. She is survived by sister June MacDonald (Paul) of Fredericton, NB; sons James Jr. (Grace Warner) of Dartmouth, NS, Roger (Violet) of Hay River, NWT, Brian (Laura) of Gander;daughters Paula Thomas (Alex) of Nanaimo, BC, Lori Wilkie (Blair) of Paradise, NL; grandchildren Ian Candow and Bethany West ; Michael Thomas and Megan Newton; Peter and Andrew Wilkie; John Candow; step-grandchildren Marissa Cummings and Adrienne Wu; great-grandchildren Leon Candow and Cole, Bennett, and Ayla Thomas; nephews Sean Lush and John MacDonald; nieces Sherry Lush and Joy MacDonald; and a vast circle of friends and relatives. Born in Middle Brook, Bonavista Bay, Cherry came to Gander at the tender age of sixteen, joining the ranks of her contemporaries who formed the first generation of Ganderites. She and Dad married in 1954,and in 1958 they moved into their home on Cotton Street, where she resided until late 2019. All who entered her door were welcomed as though they were family, and to know her was to love her. Cremation has taken place; a proper memorial service will be held when COVID-19 permits.Donations in memory of Cherry can be made to St. Martin’s Cathedral, Gander.
