Charles William Carney
June 17, 1924 – August 19, 2020
Carney, Charles William passed away peacefully Wednesday Aug 19, 2020 at Grand River Hospital Kitchener after a brief illness at the age of 96 years. Son of the late Hugh Patrick and Caroline Carney (nee Schlegel). He was predeceased by his wife Jean Carney (2019) . He is survived by children John and his wife Sonja of Winnipeg, Peter and his wife Lois of Kitchener, Kathryn and her husband Bob Shaw of Orillia . Predeceased by his son Paul, husband of Brenda of Wellesley.
Grandfather of 6 and had 7 great grandchildren . He was the youngest of seven children. Predeceased by his brother Alfred (Emily ), his sister Christine Randal (Hugh), his sister Betty Paddon (Eddy), his brother Edward (Kay), his brother Philip (Dorothy) , and his sister Ellen Wateridge (Lloyd).
Charles (Chuck) was a veteran of WWII and served in the Royal Canadian Navy as a Bandsman. A lifelong musician, he played the French horn, Trombone and later in life the Harmonica in a number of bands. Most recently he played with the Waterloo Concert Band (trombone) and the Happy Harmonicas (Harmonica).
Sports and journalism were also lifelong interests. Chuck started his career as a sports writer for the Chatham Daily news in the early forties and for most of his career life ran Carney Advertising based in Kitchener. His favorite sports team was the Toronto Blue Jays and up until the time of his passing would gladly give you his opinion on the prospects of all their players without any prompting. He was an avid reader and would think nothing of walking 5 Km as recently as last fall to the library, one of his favorite places.
At Charles request cremation has taken place, with no visitation or formal funeral.
