BOYLE, CHARLES “CHUCK, CHARLIE”
On Tuesday, October 20, at the Brockville General Hospital Garden Street Site, Charles Boyle peacefully entered into rest at the age of 94. Charlie Boyle was the beloved husband of 70 years to Joan Boyle (nee Dyer), and much-loved Father to Steven, and Carolyn (Jeff). He is predeceased by his daughter-in-law Judith Halladay, Parents Henry and Evelyn Boyle, stepmother Mary, and brothers Raymond and Kenneth. Charles was born in Thamesville, Ontario, and grew up in Windsor. He graduated from Toronto Teachers College but got his most important education from his work. Gravitating from teaching to business, he worked for McBee Systems and Molson in Montreal before the family relocated to a 19th-century farmhouse near Spencerville. Charles took a position with Brockville General Hospital, where he worked until 1988, retiring as assistant administrator and corporate board secretary. There he was known for his colourful, informative minutes, annual reports, pointed letters to government when necessary, and laid-back management and labour relations style. He always enjoyed writing and turned to it in retirement, completing five novels, several short stories, and a blog, as well as maintaining an entertaining Twitter feed and submitting letters to the editor. Throughout his life he was an active sportsman, enjoying fishing and tennis in his early years, golf and curling in retirement. He is sorely missed by his dear wife, family and friends, who will remember him as a thoughtful man with a droll sense of humour and a love for his family and home life, for politics and a well-chosen word.
