Charles Clayton Cochrane
October 23, 1916 – August 04, 2020
Cochrane, Charles Clayton – 103, of New Minas, NS passed away peacefully on August 4, 2020 at Parkstone Enhanced Care in Halifax. Clayton was the son of the late Medley and Leota (McCully) Cochrane, his mother passing during Clayton’s early childhood. Following graduation from Alma (NB) Superior School Clayton established his life direction in the rapidly evolving electrical trades. In 1941 he married the love of his life Greta McKinley (d 2008) who remained his faithful companion for the next 67 years. In 1943 Clayton took employment at the Clark Ruse Aircraft repair plant near Moncton, Clayton and Greta moving to Lakeburn (now East Dieppe) NB where they resided until 1997. In 1946 Clayton joined the staff of the formative NB Technical Institute (later New Brunswick Institute of Technology and NB Community College, Moncton Campus) where he capably served as an instructor and administrator, retiring in 1977. He had a special passion for anything electrical. As a licensed Amateur Radio Operator (VE1IP) since 1950 Clayton designed and constructed much of his equipment from scratch. Besides ham radio he enjoyed recreational trailering and, in his later years, adoringly grandfathered dogs Mollie and Maggie.
Clayton is survived by his loving son Norman, wife, Kathy (Thompson); grand-daughters, Deborah and Tiffany; grandsons Xavier and Eli; surviving siblings Eileen and Sydney Cochrane (Eleanor) and honoured extended family Lawrence and Elizabeth Bulmer and their daughters Catherine, Samantha, and Lori Lynn. Clayton is predeceased by his stepmother Gertrude “Gertie” (MacAloney), his sister Marjorie Fisher, and brother Lawrence Cochrane.
