Ten days shy of her 91st birthday
Cecilia Teresa Nolan (nee O’Reilly) passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love of her family. Predeceased by her husband Jack, siblings Mary, Ambrose, Ann, Pat, Kathy, John, Shirley and Ruth. Leaving to mourn are her children Anne (Joe), John (Liz), Larry
(Sharon), Mary (Rod), Cathy (Tom), grandchildren Jennifer, Shanna, Julie, Heather, Andrew, Suzanne, Alison, Michael, Emma, Joanna, Luke and Alex, and great grandchildren Alexa, Molly, Marley, and Edgar. She’ll also be missed by her extended family and a large
circle of friends.
Her unwavering priorities were
her family and her faith, although she’d never shy away from a good game of 120’s. She was famous for her dislike of reneging, the fifteen bid, and insisting that a card laid was a card played. She never met a hot dog she didn’t like – especially Lar’s Sweet
Bay hotdogs. Her calm dignity and sense of humour were ever present.
Born in Corner Brook, the daughter of a Railway engineer, as a teenager Cecilia moved with her family to Bishop’s Falls. From there she went to St John’s to complete her nurse’s training at St. Clare’s Hospital. She married and raised her family in post-war Gander and worked as a nursing supervisor
for many years at James Paton Memorial Hospital. In the past ten years Cecilia returned to St John’s and most recently lived at Kenny’s Pond where she made wonderful friends.
Thanks to the staff of Kenny’s
Pond and the Health Science Complex for their impeccable care. Her final days were calm and comfortable.
Visitation will take place between
5:00pm and 9:00 pm at Stacey’s Funeral Home in Gander on Thursday, February 13th. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church at 11:00 am on Friday, February 14th.
